SO you all know I'm big into scrapbooking and have a Critcut - a computerized di-cut machine. I now have the latest toy - the Gypsy. It works with the Cricut, and it is the BOMB, Baby! Let me give you some back ground.
The Cricut has programs called cartridges. Each one is a little computer program that has set designs and patterns for the Cricut to cut out. The machine I have can cut sizes from 0.25inches - 23.5 inches.
Challenge #1 - you can only have 1 cartridge in the machine at a time, and you have to turn the machine off when you go to switch cartridges. Solution to #1 - a device called a Jukebox. This handy-dandy thing allows you to have 6 cartridges hooked up to the Cricut machine so that you don't have to turn the machine off when you want to switch cartridges. Challenge with that is you cannot switch between cartridges and bring items from one cartridge over to be cut at the same time as objects from another cartridge.
Challenge #2 - there are font cartridges, but when you type out letters to make a word, they get cut as separate letters and not the word with all letters connected. You have to piece the word together. Solution to #2 - a computer program called Design Studio. This computer program in not Mac compatible, which is why I do not have it. However, it allows you to weld the letters together to make a word and not get cut out as separate letters.
So, I preordered one August 15, 2009 at the Michaels in Draper, where my mom works and I prefer to spend my money there. Michaels was the only company to do a preorder program. I wanted to be #1 on the list, but I ended up being #2. That kind of happened because mom played a mean trick on me. She said that there were red tags in the store and that I had to find one to preorder a Gypsy. Looking back on it, it is pretty funny. So someone else was 1st in line.
So, Tuesday night I had a dream that I got the call that the Gypsy was in and to come on down and get it. So in my dream, I raced down to the store, and the store manager said, "I'm sorry, we only got one in, and because you are #2 on the list, you don't get one." Talk about a scrapbooker's nightmare!
Then Mom called on Wednesday. I asked if the Gyspy was in, and she told me that they weren't expeting them until the 26th. Ok, no big.
So Thursday the 24th I got off work early - like 2:30pm, which was really nice. SO I decided to meet mom after she got off from work - about 3:30pm. We did some shopping and went back to her house. I was working on a project and I screwed something up. So I had to go back to Michaels. Got the supplies I needed to finish my project and got in line. Well, the store manager was there with a stack of Gyspy and on the phone, "So it's here whenever you would like to pick it up. Have a nice day." I could hardly contain myself! "Patty, I'm over here!" I said waving my right hand. "I was just about to call you. Do you have your preorder card?" Of course I had it - when I got it, I put it in with my drivers license so that I would have it when the call came. So I whipped it out, and she handed the cashier my Gyspy. I was so excited that I was bouncing up and down in line! So, while I was 2nd on the list, I was the first one to take my Gyspy out the door!
So, what does the Gyspy do - the Gypsy is basically the Jukebox and Design Studio in one little palm computer! Now I can scrapbook wherever I want to go! It will store all of my cartridges, save projects, allow me to put objects from other cartridges together on the same paper to be cut, weld letters together to make words...all I have to do is plug in the Gypsy to the Cricut, and away I go!
So, love my new toy, and I can hardly wait to take it every where I go! Ok, maybe that's a little extreme. I can now take it places that I want to go scrapbook but haven't been able to take the Cricut. Hell, I can plan a page layout, program every thing I want to cut out on the Cricut, and then when I get home, it's ready to go! This is just SO SWEET!
Ok, that's the fun that's happened this week. Tune in next week for an update in the adventures of Sandra and her Gypsy! ;)
